Report on Current Parking Status - Gary Smith

1. The Stadium Drive Garage is seven years old and is going through some renovation. Currently some of the sidewalks are being removed and replaced due to them sinking. On May 15 the entire garage will be closed for two weeks. During this time the garage will be power-washed and repainted. The transit level will be closed for repairs. Other summer maintenance includes expanding lot 37 by adding about 80 Resident Reserved spaces, patching lots 44, 48 and 48A. Lot 52 will be constructed on the corner of Eastern and Mitchell Streets by Printing Services and lot 15 will be expanded to the south. Part of lot 59 will be resurfaced. A new sorority will begin construction of a house around the end of the summer resulting in the closing of lot 34. The old Chi Alpha House will be torn down which will enable all the lots in that area to be incorporated into one with better traffic flow.

2. A new Associate Director of Transit has been hired. He is Mike Seither from Louisiana Transit. He will be here May 1. He has 30 years experience in public transit.

3. The FY07 permit fees have been approved by the Board of Trustees. Two moving violations were also increased. The Student Review Board approved a 10 cents per credit hour increase in the Student Transit Fee.

4. Wal-Mart Shareholders Meeting is June 2. Set-up begins May 15.

5. May 13 is Commencement, the State Softball Tournament and the SEC Track Meet. Parking information has been sent to everyone coordinating these events and is also on the Transit and Parking website for visitors.

6. We will be replacing the single space campus parking meters this summer. The current meters have become unreliable.

7. Several citations have been issued in 50A due to more frequent checking in these handicap spaces to help alleviate the illegal parking.

Old Business

1. The Maple Hill housing construction in lot 41A will begin as soon as students move out of the halls for the summer. Lot 41A has 373 parking spaces. This summer lot 37 will be expanded by about 80 spaces for Resident Reserved parking. Discussion followed on what to do in that area for parking for residents, faculty and staff. Some suggestions were: change the 46 F/S spaces in lot 37 to Resident Reserved; change 14 F/S spaces to Reserved spaces in lot 40 to make a complete row; redesignate 23 F/S spaces in lot 42 just south of Reid to Resident Reserved; make no change to parking this year; or change all Faculty/Staff to Resident Reserved and modify a bus route to help students, faculty and staff get from outer parking areas to Hotz, Reid and the NW Quad.

New Business

No quorum was present so no decisions could be made and the meeting was adjourned.
