Report on Current Parking Status - Gary Smith

1. Lots 40 and 65 will be paved the end of next week.

2. Monday, October 21, lots 2 and 26 will be closed for the dedication of the Fulbright statue. Public parking is available in lot 56.

3. Gary presented the model of the prospective south parking deck. It is planned to open in fall of 2004.

4. The North Quad construction should begin this November. The Fulbright parking lot should be completed in April with approximately 370 spaces.

It was suggested that meetings be moved to the second Wednesday of each month. Paul will let everyone know.

Old Business

Traveler Permits. Brandon Green brought up the previous request for special parking permits for the Traveler staff. Steve Wilkes, Director of Student Media, also spoke on behalf of the Traveler. Press passes are given to local tv, newspaper and radio stations. Safety is also a concern. The sales staff and photo editor leave and return to Kimpel Hall often. The committee suggested the Traveler rent reserved spaces for the staff.

New Business

1. Bus Route from Lot 56 to Hotz: Jay Huneycutt suggested the idea as a temporary way of alleviating some of the parking problems that construction in the area has caused. It was decided to wait and see if the additional twenty-four spaces in lot 40 help the problem.

2. Parking Cacus Presentation: David Martinson and Gary Smith presented the parking plan to the committee. A motion was made and seconded for the committee to support the plan in concept and to continue to research it. The motion passed. The committee would like to be kept advised on the plan.

Meeting was adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
