Report on Current Parking Status – Gary Smith
1. The Wal-mart Shareholders meeting is June 1.
2. The city is laying a new water line on California Street. The project will take about a month.
3. This Friday the architects will be interviewed for the Garland Avenue Garage project and later in the month the general contractors will be interviewed.
4. All Resident Reserved areas, except Zone 11 in the Stadium Drive Garage, are open for use by anyone with a current parking permit.
5. This summer the center of lot 59 will be reconstructed.
6. Transit changes for the fall – 56 Express, Brown and Orange will all have changes plus a new route will be added going south of campus to Crowne Apartments and Southern View Apartments. A blue relief bus will be pulled to run the old Reid Express route and the Gray will be modified to help run the blue.
7. The Safe Ride van was totaled in an accident last week. Now every person riding the Safe Ride bus must be seated and use the seat belt.
8. The Razorback Ticket Office has moved so the committee will need to decide how to designate the lot. If the building remains empty then Gary suggests that the lot be a Student lot. Gary will email the committee when more information has been received.
New Business
1. Poultry Science Circle – Dr. Walter Bottje, department head, wanted to discuss the parking situation in the circle. He likes having control over the spaces during the day so visitors and vendors can get into the circle but at night he wanted it available for graduate students and faculty for safety reasons. He says there is no loading zone issue after 4:30 pm. All the other loading zones across campus are patrolled at all times by Transit and Parking and UAPD. According to the parking regulations the circle area has three options: be a loading zone at all times; be metered; or be signed departmental spaces or a combination of the three. Gary said 33 departments on campus pay for 83 reserved spaces for visitors. One concern was if the circle was needed for emergency vehicles. It was suggested to have Wayne Brashears check the clearance for emergency vehicles and then Gary will meet with Dr. Bottje on the options.
2. Paul is nominated for state senate chair and is unopposed so will not be able to be Transit and Parking Committee chair. No decision was made since there wasn’t a quorum.
The meeting was adjourned.
