Tired of checking under sofa cushions and other dark places for parking meter change? Then try a CashKey or Debit Card. A convenient and easy way of making sure you won't be caught short when parking at a meter on campus.
A CashKey is a programmable key that provides a cashless way to use parking meters operated by the University of Arkansas. The CashKey can be carried on your key chain or stored in your vehicle and eliminates the need to carry coins for meter parking.
The Debit Card works similar to the CashKey except it is used in the multiple space parking meters in the Stadium Drive Parking Garage and parking lot 67. They can also be recharged at the meter or the Transit and Parking Department.
How Does the CashKey Work?
The CashKey is programmed at the time of purchase for any amount. When you fully insert the key into the meter it displays the value remaining on your key. The meter cannot register decimal points so it will round down to the nearest dollar. Then the meter will automatically deduct 25 cents from your key balance and put time on the meter. To register additional time on the meter, reinsert the CashKey. The CashKey does not need to be completely removed before reinsertion, so be careful to avoid unintentional reinsertions.
When the meter registers the amount of time you want, remove the CashKey and take it with you. Caution: The meter will not register more than the posted time allowed, but it will continue to deduct 25 cents from your CashKey each time it is inserted. If the key is left inserted for more than five seconds, the meter will flash out-of-order until the key is removed. This is to alert you in case you in advertently leave the CashKey in the meter.
What Meters Accept the CashKey?
CashKey meters are located in the parking lots on campus at these locations: Lot 34, 40, 47S, 60, 71, Maple Street and all Short-Term meters (gold housing) located throughout the campus.
Can I Use the CashKey in Combination with Coins?
Yes, CashKeys can be used in combination with nickels, dimes and quarters.
What Happens When My CashKey Runs Low or Out?
Just take your CashKey to the Transit and Parking Department and purchase additional time on the key. You can add value to your CashKey at any time, so stop by and add value to your key before it runs out.
Can I Purchase More Than One CaskKey or Debit Card?
Yes, but there is a $10 deposit required for each key in addition to the time you purchase.
What if I Lose My CaskKey or Debit Card?
The CashKey and Debit Card are the equivalent of money. Since the Parking Office has no way of knowing the value left on the lost key or card or whether it is being used by someone else, we cannot issue a refund or return your deposit.
What if I Move? Can I Get a Refund on My CashKey?
You can return your CashKey and receive a credit for the remaining value programmed on the CashKey, along with your deposit as long as your CashKey is returned undamaged
What if My CashKey is Damaged?
CashKeys are extremely durable and able to withstand heat, cold and moisture. They're also unaffected by magnet or x-ray exposure, such as airport security. Since normal usage should not affect your CashKey, no refunds will be issued unless we can determine the remaining balance on your key.
What is the Cost for Meter Parking?
The parking meters are set at different hourly rates: $1.10 per hour at most meters, 25 cents per 20 minutes at all Short-Term meters, and $2.00 per hour in Lot 26.
How Do I Purchase a CashKey or Debit Card?
CashKeys or Debit Cards are available at the Transit and Parking Department located in the Administrative Services Building, 155 Razorback Road. Office hours are from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except official holidays observed the University. There is a one time deposit of $10 per key. CashKeys or Debit Cards can be purchased by cash, check, Master Card, Visa or Discover credit cards and Razorbucks.
Remember: While the CashKey and Debit Card provide a convenient cashless way to pay for parking, it does not guarantee a parking space. Parking meter spaces are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Also, use of the CashKey or Debit Card does not permit you to park beyond the maximum time posted on the meter.
The Debit Card may be recharged in any of the multi-space parking meters located in parking lot 67 and the Stadium Drive Garage. They may also be recharged at the Transit and Parking Department.
There is no deposit charged for a Debit Card, however, the maximum amount that can be placed on the Debit Card is $25.
