Report on Current Parking Status - Gary Smith

1. The first phase of the Stadium Drive Garage renovation will be completed today. They will also begin power-washing the stairwells.

2. Summer maintenance has been estimated at $1.1 million. Due to the cost, only the lot 37 expansion, lot 31/35/38 expansion, lot 52 construction and lot 44 repair projects will be completed this summer. Lot 37 will be expanded by about 80 spaces. The old Chi Alpha House will come down to allow the expansion of lots 31, 35 and 38.

3. There was an issue that occurred at HAPF last week that caused some changes after it was researched. A driver tailgated out behind a paying customer. The person immediately behind the tailgater presented their prox card before the gate lowered which caused her to be delayed leaving for 30 minutes. The hard anti-passback was changed to a soft anti-passback. Parking will review the tapes based on the alarm file to check for violators.

Old Business

1. Maple Hill – Gary had sent the committee members information on the number of spaces needed to provide Resident Reserved parking for the estimated number of upper classmen who will be living in Resident Reserved zone 1 next year. Reggie made a motion to redesignate 21 Faculty/Staff spaces in lot 43 (old patient parking spaces) to Resident Reserved. The motion was seconded and passed. Reggie then moved to switch the Reserved section on the east side of lot 42 to the west side of lot 42 and making the east side Resident Reserved. This will add 26 Resident Reserved spaces and eliminate six Reserved and 20 Faculty/Staff spaces. The motion passed. The total net gain will be 47 Resident Reserved spaces and a loss of 41 Faculty/Staff and six Reserved spaces. Ralph Davis also recommended that Gary develop an efficient bus route for the students in zone 1 who will not have close parking because Reid Express does not go by lots 72, 73 and 73A on Razorback Road.

2. Evening Permits – Payment is required until 10 pm at HAPF. SDPF payment stops at 5 pm because the Union had asked Parking to help promote Union activities when the garage first opened. Parking would like for parking permit requirements and meter payments be extended until 10 pm. There are some challenging issues to be worked out in this plan pertaining to athletic events, night reserved areas, visitor parking and which permits could park in which lots. The committee liked the idea of requiring permits and meter payment in the evenings but wanted Gary to develop a plan to deal with special events and their other concerns. It was also advised that evening enforcement needs to improve.

3. Paul was re-elected as chair of the committee.
